Varnish is a web app accelerator platform, which caches data for the sake of faster access. It is occasionally called an HTTP reverse proxy as well and it interacts between a web server and a browser. When a visitor loads a certain webpage, its content is requested by the Internet browser, and then the server processes this browser request and sends back the needed data. If Varnish is enabled for a certain website, it will cache its pages on the very first visit and if the visitor accesses a cached page for a second time, the content will be delivered by the accelerator platform and not by the server. The increased loading speed is a result of the much faster response time that the Varnish platform offers compared with any web server software. At the same time, this does not mean that the users will continue seeing the exact same content again and again, because any update on any of the web pages is reflected in the content that Varnish caches in its memory.

The data caching platform is available as an upgrade with all our hosting packages and you can choose how many sites will use it and the maximum storage space that will be available for the cached content. The two upgradeable features in the Upgrades section of the Control Panel are the number of instances and the amount of system memory and they aren’t tied directly to each other, so you can choose if you need lots of memory for a single large-scale site or less memory for multiple smaller ones. You can unlock the full potential of Varnish in case the sites use a dedicated IP. Using the Control Panel, you can quickly start/restart/stop an instance, delete the cached content individually for each site which employs the Varnish platform or see an elaborate system log.

Varnish in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All our Linux semi-dedicated packages include Varnish by default, so you can make full use of the web application accelerator and improve the speed of any website that you host on our semi-dedicated servers. You’ll get 64 megabytes of memory dedicated to the Varnish accelerator at no additional charge and you will be able to create an instance with no more than a few clicks through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which is included with the semi-dedicated packages. If you need more memory, the latter is offered in increments of 32 MB in the Control Panel’s Upgrades section and it will be at your disposal momentarily. You can also order more instances as an upgrade, so you can decide if lots of data will be cached for one site or whether the memory will be used by multiple websites. The Hepsia Control Panel will permit you to reboot or to delete any instance, to view the system log file for it or to delete the cached files using one-click buttons. To take full advantage of Varnish, you can allocate a dedicated IP to the sites which will employ it.

You can use Varnish in order to optimize the loading speed of any site that’s hosted on a dedicated server with our company when the Hepsia Control Panel is installed on it.
