Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Given that the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a web hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the choices are limited as you shall not have root access to the website hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. They're all actions which are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to install server-side software or to restart the machine or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote server as well.

If the shared hosting package that you’ve chosen through the signup process includes SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this feature with only a mouse click in your Hepsia CP. If you've chosen a different plan, the SSH access function can be added via the Upgrades menu and it'll become available straightaway. The information you need to connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same spot and you'll be able to change it anytime. All commands that are permitted are listed within the Help articles that we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you have to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.
