Dot NAME Domain Names
Established in 2001, the Dot NAME domain name extension is the sole TLD planned for personal websites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are popular by. At first, only third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to acquire john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Existing 3rd-level domain names remained working.
